Designer Cynthia Vincent began her training at the Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design under the M.A.G.I.C scholarship. Upon graduation, Vincent received the Silver Thimble Award from Ann Cole, a great implication of the success that was yet to come.
Due to her acquired skills at Otis, Vincent found success early on in her professional career. Selected alongside the most talented British Applicants, the California designer began working at London-based Jane Ong & Co., Ltd. where she quickly rose to the position of head designer. After returning to the States, Vincent continued to refine her skills working for a handful of companies including Harriet Selwyn.
Vincent began her first company, St. Vincent, in 1993. Her incredible talent was recognized once again when Los Angeles honored her with the Rising Star Award. In 2002, Vincent merged St. Vincent with another company where she would help define the beginning of a new line.
In 2003, Vincent introduced the line that was to define her sensibility. She previewed her new vision, TWELFTH STREET BY CYNTHIA VINCENT, during Los Angeles Fashion week. Appropriately named after the street on which she grew up in the suburbs of LA, Twelfth Streetbecame a very personal project for Vincent. Over the years, such staples as the silk crepe de chine slips, velvet boudoir jackets and luxurious sweaters have become the most sought after fashion pieces from New York to Hollywood.
Vincent expanded her unique vision to shoes in 2005. Two years later, she was invited to show her fall/winter 2007 collection during New York's fashion week.
The designer's eclectic style, coupled with her modern translation of vintage fashion has made TWELFTH STREET an obvious choice for fashion editors as well as the entertainment industry. Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson and Rachel Bilson are among an evolving and devoted celebrity following.
Perhaps it is the inspiration behind Vincent's work that makes her designs so special. "To me, what is most inspiring is seeing a woman who is at once feminine, stylish, comfortable, and most of all, original," says Cynthia Vincent.
The designer currently resides in Silverlake with her daughter, Theanna. During the week, Theanna is a regular visitor to the design studio and even has her own space behind her mother's work station. Any member of the Twelfth Street team would confirm that everything seems brighter when she's around.
